Great question. The Excite 10 series covers a number of products:

1) Excite™ 10 LE Tablet with Android™ 3.2, Honeycomb. (Original model)
The OTA date to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was April 25th. Toshiba automatically pushes
out upgrades to your Tablet as they become available upon bootup. An APP called Service
Station is also included should you wish to manually check for updates.

2) Excite™ 10 LE Tablet featuring Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich (Newly released)

3) Excite™ 10 Tablet featuring Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich (Newly released)

Question

Does this tablet support USB host?

Does the Excite support USB Host mode? i.e. can I use a micro USB host cable to plug in an external hard drive, thumb drive, etc.?

Yes with a male micro USB to female USB adapter. The device only recognizes thumb drives or external hard drives that have been formatted in FAT. It WILL NOT read if they were formatted in NTFS (which is most commonly how external hard drives at least come when purchased.) It reads up to 750 GB hard drives. I tried a 1TB drive and had no luck.

I actually bought this tablet and it does support USB host, but, it doesn't support NTFS (this was confirmed through Toshiba's tech support). In order to use my portable hard drive I had to remove everything on it, reformat it to exFAT and then put all the data back on it. Why the tablet doesn't support NTFS is beyond me...

Question

Does the SD card slot support SDXC cards with sizes up to 64GB?

This doubles the capacity of allowable storage and would make a significant difference in making my decision to purchase this unit. Thanks for you time.

The Excite 10 Series Tablet, as with all Toshiba Tablets, comes with the Toshiba File Manager. This utility allows you to move/copy files from one part of the system to the other, or in this case, from the main storage (or gallery) to the SD card.

For a detailed explanation on the use of the Toshiba File Manager (with illustrations), please refer to pp. 89 and following of the Online User's Guide (URL below):

No. You have to use a USB-to-MicroUSB cable into the dedicated USB port on the upper right side. Only Toshiba knows why it is that way.

Short answer is no. Long answer is that it really depends on the environment your in. Toshiba includes an app that can detect most wireless printers and can hook into Google's Cloud Print. At school I can access printers in the labs, but not in the library. At my wife's office, I can use their Window's print server just fine when they have the wifi on. At my friend's house, I can hook up through bluetooth and print. I have not found a way to simply plug in and print without the app though.
If you have to do a factory reset for any reason, the app loses its full authorization and limits how many pages you can print. After that, I have found it trivial to sync everything with my Google Drive account and print from a local computer.

The Excite 10 Series Tablet has a Micro-USB 2.0 On-The-Go port. Two options are available to you: 1) purchase a Micro-USB Flash drive, or 2) purchase a Micro-USB to USB adapter + a Full-size USB Flash drive. The latter option will allow you to easily transfer files between tablet and laptop.
