Yes, you can use a USB to power outlet adapter. The issues are that most cigarette/power outlet USB adapter only output somewhere between .5 to 1.0ma. The amount of output that you get when you plug into your standard indoor power adapter for the Toshiba Excite is 2.0amps. That means if your power adapter is .5 then you are charging at only 25% the capacity and there for it will take no less than 4 times as long to charge your device. You will only receive enough power to maintain a running tablet if that and you will not be able to charge it and use it. I would say turn your device off completely and plan to leave it on the charger for approx. 8 hours.

Yes you may use a stylus.

It will work very well and as a bonus it will help keep the screen from getting smudged from fingerprints! :-)

The Excite 10 Series Tablet has a Micro-USB 2.0 port which may be adapted to a full-sized port, so no problem here. However, Rabbit TV was developed for a Windows or MAC operating system per the Rabbit TV FAQ page (https://www.rabbittv.com/faq.jsp). Consequently it is incompatible with any Android-based operating system device such as the Excite 10 Series Tablet.

The Excite 10 Series Tablet, as with all Toshiba Tablets, comes with the Toshiba File Manager. This utility allows you to move/copy files from one part of the system to the other, or in this case, from the main storage (or gallery) to the SD card.

For a detailed explanation on the use of the Toshiba File Manager (with illustrations), please refer to pp. 89 and following of the Online User's Guide (URL below):

Manuals for the Excite 10 Series Tablet are available on the Toshiba Support website (http://support.toshiba.com). For your convenience I've included the User's Guide URL below:

http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/con...

Re External HDD: the Excite 10 Series Tablet has a Micro-USB 2.0 On-The-Go port.
Use of an external HDD requires:
1. A Micro-USB to USB adapter
2. The HDD be reformatted from NTFS to x-FAT.
Caution: Be sure to back up your data prior to the reformat!
Once the drive is reloaded with data you will be able to read it from the tablet or, if the HDD is
connected to a laptop, to the laptop.

Question

What if I don't want a Google account?

All I want is a browser, a file manager, some books, and a media player for my H.264 video files. Can I do without Google? Is it tricky?

Good question. Is it tricky? Not really.

The Excite 10 Series Tablet is programmed to search for local wireless LAN networks as soon as it is turned on. Initially, the network will need to be configured (User name/password); this is done through SETTINGS app.

Among the pre-installed apps on the Excite 10 Series Tablet, Toshiba has included the Toshiba File Manager, TOSHIBA BookPlace™, and TOSHIBA Media Player.

Third party apps may be downloaded from Google Play, which is also pre-installed on the Excite 10 Series Tablet. Once on the Google Play website, SEARCH for the app by typing the name or category of the app + the phrase "for android" (the name of the OS). For example, "browsers for android" will bring up all the app (free and paid) for tablets. Be sure to read the description of the app prior to download to be sure it is not for an Android-based phone. After that, hit the install button and you're done!

Question

Can you print from it

Short answer is no. Long answer is that it really depends on the environment your in. Toshiba includes an app that can detect most wireless printers and can hook into Google's Cloud Print. At school I can access printers in the labs, but not in the library. At my wife's office, I can use their Window's print server just fine when they have the wifi on. At my friend's house, I can hook up through bluetooth and print. I have not found a way to simply plug in and print without the app though.
If you have to do a factory reset for any reason, the app loses its full authorization and limits how many pages you can print. After that, I have found it trivial to sync everything with my Google Drive account and print from a local computer.
