No. I am using it with USB 2 ports and get 2.67 MB/s. That's slower than USB 1. It takes several minutes to just display the contents of a directory that contains 10 items.

Question

Why cannot find my external HD anymore?

I connected the external HD (1tb) and it worked fine on my Dell XPS2010 with Windows XP (sp3), but after formatting my lap I cannot find the HD on windows explorer anymore (although when I connect the USB cable, an icon appears on my taskbar titled "Safely remove hardware" listing only as "SAFELY REMOVE USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE".

Check if there was a drive letter assigned, which can sometimes "fall off" and then you don't see the drive. This happens only once and once you have assigned it again, it will stay (until you reformat the machine again, or overwrite the drive letter with another device). Go to Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management. There, you may see the drive without a drive letter. Right-click on it and select "Drive Letter and Paths". Then assign a drive letter of yoru choice (don't use d: as it is often used for DVD/BD drive).

there are two different setup files and you have to do these in order or it won t work.
I just had the same issue. I did the setups out of order and it kept freezing and not installing.

The included NTI Backup Now EZ software allows you to do either manual backups at your convenience or schedule you Full System or File & Folder backups at regular intervals. For scheduled backups the Canvio 3.0 drive must be attached and the system on and awake. If you miss a backup because the drive was not connected or the system was off, the next time the drive is connected or system booted the software will inform you of the missed backup and ask if you would like to run it immediately or at the next regular scheduled time.

Question

Mac Time Machine

I just purchased the Canvio Plus 3. I have run the Tuxera Software and rebooted my machine. When I enter into Time Machine and choose the Toshiba EXT drive "Time Machine could not complete the backup. The back up disk is not in MAC OS Extended (Journal) Format which is required."

You can't run time machine on a hard drive formatted to NTFS, that is the windows xp/7/8 file system.

You have to open mac's Disk Utility app and reformat the drive to "MAC OS Extended (Journaled)". This will erase the drive, make sure nothing important is on the drive when you do this step.

How do I "view" the backed up files on my Canvio hard drive?

Simply plug the drive into a computer. Depending on what kind of partition or partition table is currently on the drive, you might have to use Windows or Mac or Linux. To view the actual files, you'll need to make sure you have the appropriate programs installed (for example, to view a Word Doc, you need MS Office or an open-source alternative)

Yes. If you install the included NTI Backup Now EZ software on each system you wish to backup you can perform both Full System backups as well as File and Folder backups separately from each computer. You can also simply drag and drop files from any PC to which you connect the Canvio 3.0.
