I use a microfiber cloth. A dry microfiber cloth will easily remove fingerprints. Spray the cloth with a fine mist of water, eyeglass cleaner, or lens cleaner to clean really dirty screens.

Some precautions: to avoid scratches be sure the screen and the cloth are free of grit before you wipe; the cheapest microfiber cloths shed microfibers which will cling to the screen, long fibered cloths will also shed a fiber now and then; toss the cloth in the laundry but wash and dry it without softeners; and avoid spraying liquids directly on the screen lest they run under the bezel.

I used a soft, damp cloth and that did okay but left swirls of finger oils. so I did it again following with a soft dry paper towel LIGHTLY and that did the trick.

The MANUAL says:
"To keep your device clean, gently wipe it with a lightly dampened soft cloth."

That's it? What about greasy finger prints? Staff's reply could have been better. It was longer than what the manual itself says. Guess I'll try windex too. Seems to work on most laptops, LCD screens and other pads I work in. I wonder about the clean wipes? Toshiba should give us more to go on than this. This is a major aspect of tablet ownership and "soft cloth" doesn't say anything.

What functionality will a native GPS receiver add? Will there be a navigation app?

The built in GPS makes external receiver unnecessary. Navigation and other apps require wifi to operate. Use of a 3g/4g USB or wifi hub works to overcome this issue. Google maps Google earth, other map sites work as expected.

answer 2
Hi,

A native GPS reciever wont add much cause the Thrive already has a full working GPS reciever build in.

Navigation can be used together with Google maps or soem other third party navigation software developers. Those are normally not free and it's possible those are not yet fully working on the large screensize. Most will work though.

Can the Thrive be charged from the USB port?

It would be VERY handy to be able to charge the Thrive with a USB cable nowadays.

The Thrive only charges from the DC-in connector or thru the dock connector when using the dock.

USB charging is worthless cause USB ports can't give enough amps to charge it fast anyway.

Big plus of the Thrive is that it has a removable battery that no other tablet has.
On vacation you have to carry the adapter or on longer trips you can take a additional battery with you.

USB charging is handy but very very slow with this type of amp hungry charge circuits.

Just looked in the Android market. Didn't see that you can download Open Office for it. That said, someone did have an app that will let you view files created with Open Office. App is called Open Office Document Reader. You could always just use Google Docs you know. The other thing to watch out for is if any apps have been optimized for tablets, meaning the larger screen real estate as opposed to the 3.7 to 4.5 inches or so for phones.

The MINI connection to to attach the device as an external HD to a computer - no special drivers are needed.

The Standard USB connection is to plug USB devices into the Thrive. These can include Keyboard, Mouse, properly formatted hard disks, flash drives, card readers and many other devices.

The other option for file transfer is to transfer them over a bluetooth connection. The OBEX is not blocked on the Thrive like it is on many cell phones and smartphones so using bluetooth to transfer files is a great option.

It appears as an MTP device so needs a special driver (also make sure USB debugging is off in the applications part of settings). I don't know if Toshiba has a Mac driver but you can always use a USB key or SD card to transfer files, or do so wirelessly via FTP or SMB using apps from the marketplace

No. It is rather large and bulky to want to use as a phone. It also only uses wifi' so you would need an IP phone app and only be useful while near your wifi connection.
