Question

How to connect LCD TV 40AV700 to my PC in full screen mode res 1920x1080 using HDMI Cable without black edges ?

When I connect my TV with my PC, resolution 1920x1080 with HDMI cable, in full screen mode, I see the black edges. Although I try some ratio from the TV control, it still can not fit the screen.
By the way, I also use an IPTV connect using HDMI and it 's perfect, full screen mode without black edges, 1080i.

My Toshiba 55G300U was doing the same thing. I had to unplug it to get it to stay off when plugged back in the problem was corrected. I had apparently stumbled into the solution.

Question

TV picture cropped with satellite reception

We have a 37HL86 LCD TV, almost 3 years old now. A few weeks ago we installed basic satellite service from Shaw Direct; previously we used just antenna reception. Now, I see that the sides of the picture are cropped in ALL picture size settings (yes, I have gone through all the possible settings on the TV that I can find). The satellite provider has a utility with a colour test pattern screen, and the outer lines are also shown to be cut off. They claim to have no knowledge of this problem before and suggest contacting Toshiba. I really doubt that this is a problem with the TV as it did not happen before with the antenna signal.

Anyone have any experience with sort of problem before? Shaw's only other suggestion is to upgrade to a higher quality receiver.

I don't believe this entry level receiver has any adjustments. There is an on-screen test pattern screen that says it has this function, but I can't find any buttons on the remote that adjust it.

I am able to switch my picture size to 4:3 ratio as well, showing black bars on either side of the screen. If set to that ratio, why would the picture still be cropped instead of just "condensed?"

I will pass your comments on to the satellite provider.

It sounds like the Satellite box is set to output a 4/3 picture ratio and the TV is a 16/9 widescreen display. Does the Satellite have any video settings that can be changed?

This model does not have a separate setting to turn the speakers off. The best way to turn the sound completely off is to move the volume down to “0”. The TV will retain that setting until changed even after the unit is powered off.

Never use any liquids or harsh chemicals to clean you screen. Only use a dry soft cloth.

Always unplug the TV before cleaning. Gently wipe the display panel surface (the TV screen) using a dry, soft cloth only (cotton, flannel, etc.). A hard cloth may damage the surface of the panel. Avoid contact with alcohol, thinner, benzene, acidic or alkaline solvent cleaners, abrasive cleaners, or chemical cloths, which may damage the surface. Never spray volatile compounds such as insecticide on the cabinet. Such products may damage or discolor the cabinet.

I have the 40FT1U and I found that I had to plug my AV jacks from my wireless headphones into the back of my Dish Network dvr. Didn't work plugged into the TV, I guess because the hdmi is plugged in there running to the dvr.

Toshiba offers many sound adjustments in the audio menu for adjusting the audio quality to your preference. You may want to check on your Satellite or Cable box if you are using one to see if there are any audio level adjustments there. There are also audio output options for connecting the TV to a home theater system.
